Will you be selling your audiobook on your website?

To do this, you need to understand a bit about DRM.
DRM stands for Digital Rights Management. Different companies use different methods to execute this, but it boils down to an attempt to inhibit the transfer of digital media to a party that has not paid for said media.
On most personal websites, you will not have the ability to enforce these restrictions. You can sell an M4B, MP3 or WAV version of your audiobook files on your website, but when the listener downloads these files, nothing stops them from sharing them with others. Studies show this is rarely done; if the files are shared, it is generally within a small close circle.
One way to make this process easier for you and your purchaser is to format your audiobook into an M4B file.
An M4B file is an audiobook most often used by Apple iTunes and Apple Books. It contains audio stored in the MPEG-4 format and compressed using AAC encoding. M4B files are nearly identical to M4A files, except they support book-related features like chapter breaks and bookmarking. Selling one of these files on your site is far more accessible for the purchaser as they only need to download one file. M4B files can be played on a wide variety of applications.
