ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Jonathan Britten is a young New Zealand author and a scholar of the ways of the classic gentleman. His genre of choice is fantasy, inspired by history and personal experience. After receiving a request to write a screenplay he has also become interested in writing for films.
Appealing to young adults, his characters are lively and likely to have hidden agendas, while his love of ancient history compels him to include relics and ruins from a bygone age in his rich plots. His website has more backstory to his series.
An important theme in his books is that of growth. The characters consistently have their ideals challenged, and have to make decisions when they know they don't have all the facts.
Another key theme is venturing into the unknown, probably drawn from his exploration around Pirongia Mountain, hiking along its trails and taking in the sights. It's all about his belief in the importance of stepping outside one's comfort zone and confronting risk, even if one can't always do that perfectly and maybe falling short of the ideal. As a neurodiverse person who grapples with anxiety, this is the reality he has lived himself and so he wants to share those lessons with his readers.
His interest in fantasy as a genre is based on films he enjoyed watching growing up and games he's played. But he's also open to trying his hand at other genres at some later date. As for why he writes, it's to be independent, to be his own boss and follow his own path.
